Planning the party
If you’re planning a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed birthday party for your child, an early start to planning is a great idea. Time, however, was not on our side. This party came together in about one week.
Because our boy's Birthdays are so close to one another, and because we had decided to throw them a Noon Year's Party in between, we were very short on planning time. But it came together beautifully, nonetheless.
We began by creating and texting the invitation to everyone we wanted to invite. We also printed copies of the invitation to give to the kids in our Birthday boy's class. Creating the invitation and inviting our guests was the step that gave us the push to make the rest of the party happen.
Tip: We create our invitations via Canva. It's simple and easy, and best of all, it's free.
Next, we did what all parents do when planning a party, we searched Pinterest. We found a few cakes and cookies that we loved, and sent images to our baker, along with a few requests from our Birthday Boy.
Amazon was step three, flowed by Party City, since not all Amazon finds would arrive in time for our big day.
Decorations
Again, we were short on time, but our trip to Party City proved to be fruitful. We purchased a large customizable banner, table cloth and balloons, as well as Sonic themed disposable plates and napkins to set the tone.
We placed fun mylar balloons around the living room and put out plates, napkins, and cups with Sonic’s face on them for an extra touch of fun. We bought a handful of stuffed animals and plushies featuring Sonic, Tails, and Shadow Sonic, and placed them around the house. Finally, we used our own game consoles and televisions to display some of our favorite classic Sonic games.
Games
For the kids, we wanted to make sure that the party was full of fun and interactive games that they could enjoy. We set up some classic Sonic The Hedgehog-themed games that all the kids loved.
We purchased a couple of Sonic targets with velcro balls to hang around the house, and the kids got to play various arcade games throughout the house. This was especially fun because it gave them something to do during downtimes, and between all of the craziness.
Another fun idea that we simply didn't have time to execute would be a Sonic-themed scavenger hunt. We wanted to set up clues around the house for the kids to find and follow to complete the hunt. The kids would have a great time running around the house solving clues.
Another more creative activity would be a Sonic-themed obstacle course. Simply take various household items and created a course that the kids would have to traverse using Sonic’s special moves. It would be an absolute blast for the kids, running, jumping, and spinning their way through the course. We wanted to set this up outside, but we were rained out.
To end the day on a calm note, a game of Sonic trivia. Ask your little Sonic fans questions about Sonic’s adventures and the history of the series, the games, and even the movies and give out prizes to those who get them right!
Food
When planning our Sonic-themed birthday party, one of the most important elements was the food.
The centerpiece of our menu was our amazing Sonic and Shadow Sonic cake. It was truly a showstopper, with its intricately detailed designs and vibrant colors. It was a beautiful addition to our party decorations.
In addition to the cake, we also provided plenty of other delicious dishes. We ordered Hawaiian BBQ and Korean BBQ for our guests, with selections of various beef dishes, as well as Katsu Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken for the kids. Everyone loved the variety of flavors. Lets just say, there were no leftovers!
Of course, there was also a large selection of drinks including sodas, juices, water and a small selection of adult beverages.
Overall, our Sonic themed birthday party was a huge success! Everyone had a great time and the food was delicious. We look forward to throwing another celebration soon!
Favors
When it comes to favors, the possibilities are endless! For a Sonic themed birthday party, you can make your guests feel special with some fun and creative favors. We wanted to make sure that each of our children's guests left the party with a special reminder of how much fun they had, so we put together some awesome Sonic themed goodies for each one.
For starters, we ordered draw string Sonic themed backpacks for the goodie bags and filled them with Sonic rings and gems, Sonic socks and various toys. We even found some cute mini figures of Sonic and his friends that the kids really loved! We also made sure to include some traditional favors like candy and chocolates, as well as some coloring pages and crayons so that the kids could continue their Sonic adventures at home.
The favors were definitely a hit, and everyone had a blast picking out their favorite items from the goodie bags. It was a great way to thank everyone for coming to the party and for helping to make it an unforgettable day!
