Honoring Our Heroes Aboard the Queen Mary

Queen Mary Veterans Day Event - Free for. Veterans and their families
Queen Mary Veterans Day Event

As Veterans Day approaches, my heart always swells with pride for the men and women who have served our country. This year, the iconic Queen Mary in Long Beach is doing something truly special to honor these heroes. On Monday, November 11, from 10 AM to 6 PM, veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families will receive free admission for a day of celebration, reflection, and gratitude.

As the wife of an Army veteran, this kind of event holds a special place in my heart. My husband Craig, who served in the Army, has always been a quiet hero in our family. His time in the service shaped him into the incredible man and father he is today. For families like ours, Veterans Day isn’t just about the ceremonies or parades; it’s about honoring the sacrifices made, the long nights away from home, and the pride that comes with serving a greater purpose.

So, when I heard that the Queen Mary was opening its doors to veterans and their families for a full day of activities, it immediately struck a chord. The idea that veterans can enjoy this historic ship with exclusive programming designed just for them makes it even more meaningful.

“We are deeply honored to host this celebration aboard The Queen Mary,” said Steve Caloca, Managing Director. “As we open our doors to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families, it’s a privilege to create a meaningful day filled with special programming that reflects our deep gratitude for their service and sacrifice. The Queen Mary has a rich history of service, and we are proud to continue that legacy by giving back to those who have given so much for our country.”

A Day Tailored for Veterans and Their Families

This Veterans Day event aboard the Queen Mary isn’t just any celebration—it’s a full day dedicated to creating lasting memories for veterans and their loved ones. Whether it's a simple "thank you" or a grand event like this, that acknowledgment goes a long way.

Veterans and active-duty military personnel, along with their families, can enjoy:

- Exclusive Meet-and-Greets: We enjoy hearing veterans' stories, and this event allows veterans to meet the ship’s Captain and officers, making for a truly unique experience.

- Letter Writing to Active Troops: It’s a way to pay it forward, crafting letters to those still serving.

- Patriotic Arts & Crafts: Perfect for the kids—these activities will let families create something fun while honoring the veterans in their lives.

- Entertainment: From the sounds of the GI Boys to a tribute to The Andrews Sisters, the day’s entertainment will transport guests back in time to an era where service and sacrifice were honored in the spotlight.

In addition to these activities, veterans and their families can explore the Queen Mary’s many exhibits. Veterans and active-duty personnel can take self-guided tours through iconic areas of the ship like the Engine Room, The Wheelhouse, the Ship Model Gallery and the Churchill Exhibit, exploring the ship’s deep connection to World War II.

While admission is free for veterans, there’s an option to upgrade the experience with guided tours, dining, shopping, or even grabbing a drink at the famous Observation

A Personal Touch to Veterans Day

For me, Veterans Day has always become a day of pride. It’s a day to not only honor my husband, but all the men and women who, like him, have dedicated their lives to something larger than themselves. The Queen Mary’s Veterans Day event is more than just a celebration; it’s a space where families like mine can come together, share stories, and reflect on the incredible journey that comes with military service.

Veterans can reserve tickets for themselves and their families online. It’s a perfect way to show our appreciation, and the fact that it’s happening aboard such an iconic ship makes it even more special.
